Castiglioncello Bandini lies at an altitude of 606 m on one of the hills descending from Monte Amiata, at the foot of the Poggio all’Olmo Regional Nature Reserve. An unpaved, nature-oriented trail connects the village with Monticello Amiata. In addition, the 3.6 km-long Sentiero delle acque leads to Castiglioncello Bandini. These different types of trail provide several specific themes for a stay: a short historic trail, a nature-oriented connection between two villages and a longer trail associated with water.

Historic village centre and buildings

The village grew up around a medieval castle that was formerly called Castiglion del Torto. Castiglion del Torto is an extensive building complex with several structures, two towers and exterior walls completely faced with stone. It includes a square tower with a 19th-century crenellated top. For finding your way around the area, it is important to note that Castiglion del Torto is privately owned.

Another historic building is the Church of the Madonnino outside the castle village. It was built in the 17th century and was probably used as an oratory. Together with the medieval castle complex, it points to the village’s different stages of development, although the two buildings do not date from the same period.
