Chianciano Terme – Thermal Parks, Etruscan Culture and Landscapes

Chianciano Terme combines thermal waters, Etruscan history, short cycling routes and Tuscan specialities within a compact thematic area. This makes the town suitable for you if you want to combine relaxing days with cultural discoveries and experiences in the landscape, without limiting your stay to just one focus.

Thermal Parks and Wellness Experiences

The Terme di Chianciano thermal complex includes the Fucoli and Acqua Santa thermal parks. At Parco Fucoli, the facilities include bathing in thermal water outdoors and mud therapy. The Terme Sensoriali offer a different focus, with 20 different wellness experiences. These include relaxation pools, aromatherapy, chromotherapy, music therapy, a calidarium, a Turkish bath and experience showers. This allows you to choose between spending time in thermal water outdoors and a broader selection of sensory wellness experiences.

Cycling Routes and Thermal History

For active days, there are the Sentieri di Chianciano. They consist of three short, interconnected routes: Sentieri della Nonna, Sentiero del Bosco and Sentiero della Poesia. Together, they are slightly more than 13 km long and include 373 metres of elevation gain at an altitude of 450 to 580 m. An MTB must be used on these routes. The routes allow guests of the thermal centre to discover the landscape around Chianciano. A second option is the Percorso delle acque, designated as 24E6. It leads to the sites of the famous thermal waters in Chianciano Terme, is 7.4 km long and has 239 metres of elevation gain. The maximum altitude is 686 m. The route is suitable for everyone; at the same time, use of an MTB is recommended. The two options therefore differ clearly in their documented extent and thematic focus: the emphasis is either on several interconnected landscape routes or on the thermal waters of Chianciano.

Etruscan History and Historic Centre

The Museo Civico Archeologico delle Acque di Chianciano Terme is housed in a former 19th-century granary in the heart of the historic centre. Its most distinctive feature is the world's most important collection of Etruscan canopic urns, meaning human-shaped ash urns. A visit to the museum therefore provides you with a concrete introduction to Etruscan culture and combines the collection's main focus with a historic building. The Castello dei Conti Manenti, also called il Monastero, and the Torre dell’Orologio are also located in the historic centre. Both names serve as local points of orientation, without implying any particular use or specific visitor offering.

Olive Oil, Pastry-Making Tradition and Landscape

Frantoio La Macina hosts gastronomic tastings featuring typical products, with extra virgin olive oil as the main focus. There, you can also view a wooden olive press from the 16th century and a special collection of historic objects. Another local speciality is Torta di Chianciano Marabissi. It is appreciated by residents of Chianciano and holidaymakers and has been a firmly established part of the local pastry-making tradition for more than half a century. The Pietraporciana nature reserve provides a contrast in the landscape. It is located on the 847 m-high ridge between Chianciano Terme and Sarteano. This means that your stay can be viewed not only in terms of thermal offerings and culture, but also as an opportunity to experience a protected landscape between two towns. If you would like to compare other destinations in the same region with Chianciano Terme, you will find Monteroni D'arbia, Castellina In Chianti, Chiusi, Gallina, San Casciano Dei Bagni, Fonteregina and Sarteano.
