The Palio di Casole d'Elsa is a horse race held annually on the second Sunday in July in honour of Saint Isidore. The competition is distinctive because it takes place without saddles on an uphill unpaved racetrack. Festivities and dinners are already held in the contrade during the week before the Palio. Those who visit the town at this time therefore experience not only the race itself, but also the accompanying festival culture. Another seasonal tradition awaits you during the Christmas season: Casole d'Elsa then stages a large open-air performance of a living nativity scene. Cycling and hiking connections in the landscape

The Terre di Casole Bike Hub is ideal for active days. It is a cycling tourism destination in the heart of Tuscany and part of Strade di Siena. Another historical connection is provided by the Cammino d'Etruria Centro, a route between Volterra and Chiusi. The village of Casole d'Elsa and the Etruscan Tumulus of Mucellena are part of this route. The tumulus probably dates from the 6th century BC and can be reached on foot from the main road via an easy forest path.
