The Palio della Rivalsa di Bettolle

The local history becomes visible as a re-enacted event during the Palio della Rivalsa di Bettolle. The event recalls an episode from the 16th century, when Ascanio della Cornia, lord of Castiglion del Lago, launched a military attack on the fortifications of Bettolle. The re-enactment remains closely connected to the town: five pairs of bearers representing the contrade of Bettolle carry a wooden amphora on a stretcher for two complete laps through the historic centre.

The modern Chianina breed is the result of selection that began in the previous century at the livestock farms of the Fattorie Puccio and Passerini in Bettolle.
