Riparbella between Forest, Wine and Etruscan Culture

Riparbella combines forests, wine-making traditions and culture. Particularly characteristic is the Il Giardino–Scornabecchi forest complex: it covers 632 hectares between Riparbella and Montescudaio on the first hills overlooking the Tyrrhenian coast. At the same time, this area is part of Tuscany’s regional agricultural and forestry heritage and is managed by the Municipality of Riparbella.

Hiking Trails in the Il Giardino Area

For a shorter loop trail, Route No. 6, “Alla scoperta del Giardino”, is available. The route is 7 kilometres long, moderately difficult and passes through the protected “Giardino” area. Its starting point is the Centro Aziendale. A second option is the “La Cascata” loop trail in Loc. Il Giardino. It is 10.6 kilometres long and also moderately difficult. The route leads to the Cascatoio; a spring there can be reached via a wooden footbridge. The two trails therefore offer different distances, while both remain clearly classified as moderately difficult loop hikes.

Wine and Regional Products on the Anello del Vino

The Anello del Vino is aimed at anyone who would like to combine cycling with the region’s wine culture. The cycle loop is 46.60 kilometres long and leads from Il Giardino to nine wineries in Riparbella. In total, the Anello del Vino comprises nine stops. Bookable options include a show-cooking lunch featuring “healing” cuisine and regional products described as km 0, as well as tastings at each winery. Products from Riparbella and the wines presented there are offered. The loop makes the connection between landscape, exercise and local products a tangible experience.

Etruscan Finds and Contemporary Land Art

C'ERA – Centro Espositivo Riparbella Antica, located in the municipal library, displays around 50 Etruscan artefacts from Belora. The exhibits include a golden funerary crown from the Hellenistic period. C'ERA uses bilingual panels in Italian and English and offers multisensory tours for residents, schools and visitors. “Paesaggi Cosmici” provides a completely different cultural accent: the permanent land-art trail consists of five installations about the universe in the forest of Giardino Scornabecchi. In addition, the monumental Bellincioni cemetery is a reminder that Riparbella also has historic sites; it was declared a national monument in 1989.

Forest Landscape and Guided Wildlife Observation

The Giardino Scornabecchi also contains a wildlife reintroduction area of around 290 hectares. Guided excursions for wildlife observation are organised there. This expressly accompanied access distinguishes the area from the loop trails described above and is an important separate aspect when planning a nature experience.
