Bolgheri Station

Bolgheri Station represents a special combination of coast, woodland trails, cultural heritage and the wine landscape of Bolgheri. Nearby are the beaches of Marina di Bibbona, which are suitable for swimming and water sports. At the same time, cycling and hiking routes lead through pine forest and Mediterranean maquis to the area around Bolgheri. This makes it possible to plan a trip combining relaxing days on the coast, active stages and regional culture.

Coast, pine forest and cycling routes

The coast of Marina di Bibbona features wide sandy beaches, typical dunes and coastal areas characterised by Mediterranean maquis. This landscape complements the swimming and water sports opportunities with a distinctly natural coastal character. A five-kilometre cycling path leads through the pine forest of Marina di Bibbona and connects the beach area with Cecina Mare. For a trip catering to different interests, this route therefore creates a direct connection between the sea, forest and the two coastal towns. The Macchia della Magona nature area also offers several ways to experience the landscape actively. In the surroundings of Bolgheri Station, it includes Mediterranean maquis as well as deciduous and pine forests. There are a total of 16 trails covering 50 kilometres for hiking, horse riding and mountain biking. The selection therefore goes beyond a single walking trail and combines different forms of transport with a typical Tuscan woodland and scrub landscape.

Routes between the railway station and the coast

Bolgheri Station is located in an area crossed by several well-known routes. The Cammino Dalla Via Francigena alla Costa degli Etruschi has its endpoints at the FS railway stations of Certaldo and Bolgheri or Cecina. The coastal branch of the Cammino Francigena Mare connects to Bolgheri Station and reaches the sea at Marina di Bibbona and Cecina. In addition to the Via Francigena, this coastal branch also crosses the Vie Etrusche Volterra–Piombino and Volterra–Fiesole. The northern routes of the Etruscan Coast are also relevant for orientation on longer routes: among other places, they start at Bolgheri railway station and can be connected to form one large circular route. Anyone incorporating the railway station into their travel plans should also note that Bolgheri Station has no ticket office.

Bolgheri, cypress trees and regional products

The five-kilometre-long, cypress-lined Viale dei Cipressi is located in the municipality of Castagneto Carducci. It connects the Oratorio di San Guido with the historic centre of Bolgheri. The Oratorio di San Guido is a hexagonal temple commissioned by the Della Gherardesca family. The cycling route Tra Castagneto Carducci e Bolgheri leads to the Viale dei Cipressi and into the historic centre of Bolgheri. Along this route, there is also an opportunity to sample typical local products from the regional cuisine in Bolgheri.
