Roccastrada combines a distinctive rocky landscape with medieval history, hiking trails through the Grosseto Maremma and the wine culture of the Strada del vino Monteregio. In addition, remains of a 12th-century residential building can be found in the Vicolo della Contessa Giovanna. The Porta del Madonnino is Roccastrada's medieval town gate and lies to the southwest between the Vicolo Basso and the Piazzetta dell'Incrociata. It has 180 seats: 79 are in the stalls, while a further 101 are arranged in three tiers with boxes. Roccastrada's history is also connected with mining. In the Middle Ages, the town was an important centre for silver and copper mining.
