Pian De' Cerri – Hiking in the Hills of Scandicci

Pian dei Cerri is characterized above all by its extensive network of trails in the hills of Scandicci. Sentiero 730 forms its backbone, with most of the other trails branching off from it. The network connects different routes, directions, and destinations – from a longer cross-country hike to sections of the Anello del Rinascimento.

Cross-country hikes and clearly named routes

A cross-country hike reaches Pian dei Cerri via trails 733 and 733A at an elevation of 372 m. It is approximately 19 km long and takes about six hours. From Pian dei Cerri, the cross-country hike then continues along trail 734 to the Fattoria and Agriturismo Roncigliano. The Anello del Rinascimento also passes through Pian dei Cerri. Its seventh stage is titled “La Certosa – Pian dei Cerri – Signa” and runs from La Certosa via Pian dei Cerri to Signa. The place therefore lies on a longer connection between the Certosa area and Signa.

Forests, olive groves, and the hills of Scandicci

The Anello del Rinascimento trail from Pian dei Cerri toward Lastra a Signa runs through the Roveta forests. Olive groves in the landscape overlooking the Arno interrupt the Roveta forests. Along this section, wooded areas alternate with agricultural landscapes, while the trail maintains its direction toward Lastra a Signa. On the Anello del Rinascimento, Pian dei Cerri is considered the hilliest part of the municipality of Scandicci. Around Roveta, the Anello del Rinascimento trail passes through this hilly section within the municipality of Scandicci.

Historical traces along the trail to Roveta

A hike from Pian dei Cerri toward Roveta passes the ruins of the former Acqua Roveta bottling plant. The plant operated until 1975. The ruins therefore lie along a route connecting Pian dei Cerri with the direction of Roveta and point to the site's former use.
