Vinci between Leonardo culture and countryside

Vinci combines connections to Leonardo, works of art, historic sites, and a landscape of vineyards and olive groves. This gives you a travel decision with different focuses: you can explore the historic centre and cultural sites, or include the route to Anchiano in your visit as a walking and cycling experience. Guided formats and special family offers complement the individual attractions, without requiring all interests to be experienced in the same way.

The Strada Verde to Anchiano

Route No. 14, the Strada Verde, is a 1,800-metre walking and cycling route from the centre of Vinci to the Casa Natale di Leonardo. The route connects the centre with Anchiano, leads through vineyards and olive groves, and offers views of Vinci and the surrounding area. Alongside the cultural sites, this provides a specific route through the countryside. The Casa Natale di Leonardo is located 3 km from the town centre in Anchiano. From Vinci, it can be reached by car or on foot via the Strada Verde. The house contains a permanent educational exhibition. Those who do not want to limit their visit to the town centre will therefore find a clearly defined additional destination here, along with two different ways to get there.

Works of art, baptistery and audiovisual insights

The audiovisual 3D installation “Leonardo a Vinci: un genio si racconta” is shown at the Casa Natale di Leonardo. In the town, “L'uomo di Vinci” also commemorates Leonardo’s drawing of the Vitruvian Man: the work by Mario Ceroli is made of shaped laminated wood. “Il cavallo di Leonardo” is a bronze sculpture approximately 2.5 metres high. On a smaller scale, it depicts the horse that Leonardo designed for Francesco Sforza, the Duke of Milan. “Il Battesimo di Leonardo” in the baptistery of the Chiesa di Santa Croce provides another historical connection. The baptismal font in which Leonardo was probably baptised is also preserved there. Admission to the Chiesa di Santa Croce is free.

Guided and family-oriented ways to visit

The guided tours “Alla scoperta del Genio” can combine the Museo Leonardiano, the historic centre of Vinci, and the Casa Natale del Genio with expert guidance. This is a different way to visit than independently combining the town centre, Strada Verde, and Anchiano: several Leonardo sites are brought together in one guided programme. For families, there is the “Una domenica con Leonardo” programme, featuring practical activities focused on building, observing, and inventing. Some dates additionally include visits to specific museum areas or the Leonardo machines. The Festa dell’Unicorno reached its 20th edition in 2026. Its programme included fantasy, science fiction, steampunk, horror, and the Middle Ages, as well as activities for families and younger children.
