Pieve Santo Stefano between the Tiber landscape and culture

The museum therefore places a different emphasis than a classic collection of masterpieces: it makes personal memories and individual life stories a gateway to Italian history.

The Piccolo museo del diario is listed as being open Monday to Friday from 09:30–12:30 and 15:00–18:00, and on Saturdays and Sundays from 10:00–13:00 and 15:00–18:00. Anyone wishing to fit the visit into their daily itinerary can use these times as a specific point of reference.

Art, churches, and historic townscapes

Sacred art also gives the town its own distinctive character. The Collegiata di Santo Stefano houses the works “Assunzione di Maria tra Santi” and “San Sebastiano alla colonna” from the workshop of Andrea Della Robbia. The Santuario della Madonna dei Lumi is a church affiliated with the Collegiata di Santo Stefano. The painting “Madonna del Pontevecchio” is attributed to Stefano Bardini.

The Palazzo Pretorio acquired its present form at the beginning of the 14th century and was remodelled at the end of the 16th century. In the village of Montalone, the original circular structure has been preserved; there, the houses are arranged around the parish church. The Church of Santi Giacomo e Cristoforo in Montalone houses a panel created in 1505 featuring the “Resurrezione di Cristo” by Gerino da Pistoia. In the surroundings of Pieve Santo Stefano, you can also see the houses of the former castle of Roti, which stood in a strategically important location and overlooked the valleys of the Torrente Isola and the Tiber. Cammini di Francesco and viewpoints

Pieve Santo Stefano is the destination of the first stage of the Cammini di Francesco from La Verna. The second stage begins here and leads to Sansepolcro through the Riserva Naturale dell'Alpe della Luna. The Cammino di Francesco from La Verna to Assisi is marked with its own trail markers in both directions.

The Eremo di Cerbaiolo offers panoramic views over the Alta Valle del Tevere. The route description for the Via del Nord recommends checking the opening hours before taking a detour to the Eremo di Cerbaiolo.
