The Chiesa di Santa Caterina in Burcinella is recorded as a subsidiary church and as architectural heritage. According to a diocesan list, its history dates back to the 14th century, in which the church of Santa Caterina di Burcinella is mentioned. Thus, alongside its present-day name, a medieval written record is also central to the local heritage.

The ancient Fattoria di Santa Caterina is located in the Località Santa Caterina-La Fratta. Its rural complex includes a Colonica building and a Leopoldina building. Both were constructed in the 18th century during the grand-ducal drainage of the Valdichiana. The buildings formerly belonged to the Order of the Knights of Santo Stefano; this affiliation should be understood as a historical condition, not as present-day use. This creates a connection between agriculture, architectural history and the development of the Valdichiana when considering the area.

The area’s older history is also connected with Fratta. According to tradition, a famous Etruscan bronze chandelier from the 4th century BC was found in the Fratta area in 1840. Describing it as a tradition preserves the traditional character of this information.

A Route on the Loreto Embankments

For an active exploration, the Fratta–Ronzano–Creti–Fratticciola route is 13 km long, takes 2 hours and 30 minutes, and has a medium-to-high difficulty level. It uses the cycle and pedestrian path on the Loreto embankments around the church of Sant’Agata di Fratta.

Events and Pici from Fratta

The local events scene extends beyond culture and trails. At the Fratta Offroad event, races with remote-controlled 1:8-scale buggy model cars were held at the Fratta mini racetrack. The races took place in the Nitro and Electric categories. The event therefore represents a highly specialised, technically oriented facet of the area.

Another tradition is the Sagra della Pastasciutta, a traditional recurring event organised by the Associazione Sportiva Fratta S. Caterina. It is dedicated to celebrating and preserving first courses. Its menu features Pici al Sugo d’Ocio and Pici all’Aglione. These two dishes make the event particularly concrete in culinary terms: here, pici appear not merely as a general speciality, but in two explicitly named preparations.
