Lajatico

Lajatico is a tiny town located in Tuscany, 46 kilometers away from Pisa.

Lajatico stretches in a picturesque hilly area, at the height of 205 meters above the sea level.

But this small town is famous all over the world not for its architectural masterpieces. Lajatico is known as the birthplace of the most popular tenor of nowadays, Andrea Bocelli. His name is connected with a unique cultural event. Only once a year, at a specially constructed by Lajatico theater, “Theater of Silence”, Teatro del Silenzio, Andre Bocelli concert is held. The name of the theater reminds that its stage is designated only for performances of the outstanding tenor and his guests. All over time the theater only receives tourists.

“Teatro del Silenzio” is an amphitheater. Peculiarities of local relief were smartly used while constructing it. That is why the “Theater of Silence” has become an outstanding example of  a balanced combination of nature and architecture beauty.

There is one more cultural event held in Lajatico on a regular basis worth mentioning. A historical festival is organized annually. There is a parade in the streets of the town with participants wearing medieval costumes.
