Only a tiny part of the province of Pisa has a seafront location; the majority of the territory “hides” behind Livorno. There are few well-known resorts here, but you will be amazed with their uniqueness. The resort of Tirrenia is located on sandy beaches, and is surrounded by charming bays and pine woods. Its neighbor, Marina di Pisa, is one more sea resort which provides outstanding opportunities for recreation.

Pisa is mostly an agricultural area, and is very attractive for rural tourism lovers.

Yet, the wealth of the province is first of all its cultural legacy. Even those who are not well familiar with art know the attractions of Pisa. The famous Leaning Tower of Pisa is known all over the world. This one, and other attractions of the Square of Miracles are included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Not only the capital, but also other towns have kept magnificent monuments of art, such as fortifications, ancient temples, palaces, villas, squares.

For those who are interested in traditions it's worth visiting historical holidays and fests of local products. The most famous traditional festivals are held in Pisa and San Miniato.

Pisa

Pisa is famous for so called “leaning tower”, although it is not the only wonder of architecture in the city. Cathedral complex Campo dei Miracoli was granted the World Legacy status in 1986. It includes the leaning belltower, Santa Maria Magiore Cathedral and baptistery. These buildings build up common ensemble which captivates with the whiteness of marble and harmony of style: refraining arches are crowned with orbed windows. Volterra

Volterra is a small town with rich history which goes back almost by three thousand years. The early stage of town development is connected with Etruscans. Now we may see the evidence of their presence not only in the richest museums but also in the town itself. Today you may pass through the famous Porto del Acro, which contain the image of three Etruscan gods and walk around Fortezza which embraces the town centre and seems to be endless. San Miniato

San Miniato is especially popular with visitors in November. Various cultural events are held in the town during it. The main one is the annual fair of white truffles.

Lajatico

Lajatico is known as the birthplace of the most popular tenor of nowadays, Andrea Bocelli. His name is connected with a unique cultural event. Only once a year, at a specially constructed by Lajatico theater, “Theater of Silence”, Teatro del Silenzio, Andre Bocelli concert is held.
