Art and history in Seano

At the Parco Museo Quinto Martini, you can expect a three-hectare green space with 36 bronze sculptures by Quinto Martini. The park does not place art in an enclosed interior, but in a spacious setting. In addition, the Pieve San Pietro in Seano is an early medieval parish church in the town. A document issued by Otto III on February 25, 998, mentions it as a church recognized as belonging to the Bishop of Pistoia. The church’s present appearance also reflects different periods. The façade was extensively redesigned in 1928 and features a portal and two bifora windows in the Neo-Romanesque style. In the lower section, the masonry consists of regularly cut sandstone blocks dating from the 12th to the 13th century. Those interested in architecture and historical details can therefore trace a clearly recognizable connection between medieval building fabric and later redesign. The artistic dimension of Seano also includes the Casa Studio Quinto Martini. It is open by prior appointment on the second and fourth Saturday and Sunday of each month, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. An advance booking should therefore be planned for a visit.

Trails along the Torrente Furba

The Anello della Furba circular trail begins at the parking area of the Parco Museo Quinto Martini in Seano and starts from there. After the Ponte Nero, the circular trail follows the more natural-looking section of the Torrente Furba. Bends and stone weirs characterize this part of the route and give it a different character from the sculpture park. Le Vie dell’Acqua offers another perspective. This route is focused on natural history, culture and art history. Its first section runs along the Parco Museo and continues beyond the Casa Studio. This allows art, local history and the waterside landscape to be viewed along different sections of the route without combining the individual attractions into a single attraction.

Markets, festivals and regional traditions

For a stay with a regular schedule of events, Seano offers several established dates. La soffitta in Piazza takes place on the second Sunday of every month, except in August. Campagna in piazza is a market for organic and natural products and takes place on the third Saturday of every month from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. The Festa del Crocifisso di Seano honors a wooden crucifix behind the main altar of the Church of San Pietro in Seano. Every five years, this festival culminates in a historic procession with 250 costumed participants. The Festa della battitura has a different focus: In Seano, the grain harvest and grape harvest are reenacted every year.
