Discover Goraiolo

Goraiolo lies at a crossroads leading toward the villages of Alto Pesciatino and the Apennine peaks. The village can be reached beyond medieval Marliana. Its location is also associated with more recent tourism development, which is attributed to its convenient position. Location and bus connections

Goraiolo is a stop on bus route 855. This route connects Montecatini Terme, Marliana, Panicagliora, Avaglio, and Serra. The connection places Goraiolo among a series of Tuscan towns linked by the same bus route. Those who want to understand the surrounding area without focusing exclusively on the roads will therefore find a specific public transport connection here. The road location is also clearly defined. The Strada della Bugia route passes through Goraiolo and then continues along the SP3bis. The section of the Strada della Bugia near Goraiolo passes through dense fir forests. A journey through the village is therefore guided not only by the name Goraiolo, but also by the sequence of the Strada della Bugia and SP3bis, as well as the wooded section of road.

Cycling races and sporting routes

Goraiolo lies on the route of the Firenze–Viareggio road race. Another specific connection with cycling is the Cronoscalata Marliana-Goraiolo. It is 5.0 km long and includes 282 metres of elevation gain. The route was also one of the three time-trial sections of the 15th edition of the Gran Fondo Edita Pucinskaite. The cycling references differ in form. The Cronoscalata Marliana-Goraiolo is a mountain time trial; the 5.0 kilometres and 282 metres of elevation gain refer to the section between Marliana and Goraiolo. In the 15th edition of the Gran Fondo Edita Pucinskaite, this section was one of three time-trial passages. Firenze–Viareggio, on the other hand, refers to a road race whose route passes through Goraiolo. The two place names in the Cronoscalata title mark the endpoints of the time trial.

Hiking and historical traces

The La Pievaccia–Serra hiking route begins in Panicagliora, near Goraiolo, and continues in the direction of Goraiolo–Pescia. Along the route, less than 2 km lead to the ruins of the parish church of S. Andrea di Furfalo, also known as La Pievaccia. The ruins are therefore described as a named point along the route. Another option is the Casore del Monte–Femminamorta–Panicagliora–Goraiolo–Marliana–Nievole circular hike. It reaches Goraiolo along a ridge and offers views of the mountains in the province of Pistoia. For you, this route connects several place names with a clearly described landscape: here, Goraiolo appears as one section of a circular hike along the ridge, rather than merely as an individual destination.
