Vicopisano – Defensive Architecture, Trails and Tuscan History

Vicopisano is a destination for travelers who do not want to separate Tuscan history from the landscape. The town lies between the course of the Arno River and Monte Pisano. For your visit, the documented opening schedule of the Rocca is important: The complex is open every weekend from Capodanno Pisano on March 25 until the end of November. From December to March, it is open on the second Sunday of every month. This information clearly shows the seasonal difference without implying a visit outside these times.

Other notable buildings are part of Vicopisano’s historic structure. The Torre dell’Orologio was probably built in the 12th or 13th century as a military watchtower and is now used as a bell tower. The Pieve di Santa Maria dates back to the 12th century and is a well-preserved example of a Pisan Romanesque church.
