Uliveto Terme can be particularly well explored via a signposted route variant. Variant 4 of the Cammino di Santa Giulia is presented as an easier, more accessible option for hikers who wish to avoid inclines. It follows cycle paths and side roads along the Arno valley floor and reaches Uliveto Terme. This gives you a clear distinction within the route: the trail combines a flat course with a specific destination.

Landscape between Monte Pisano and the Arno

Uliveto Terme lies between Monte Pisano and the Arno and is associated with quarries and natural caves. Buca della Cava di Uliveto Terme, also known as Buca Vavavuma, is located in the Cava di Uliveto Terme area in the karst region of the Monti Pisani. The large garden of Parco Termale di Uliveto is suitable for walks and outdoor sports. In addition, the L’anello del Monte Pisano cycle path passes through Uliveto Terme. This brings together a signposted hiking trail, a flat route along the valley floor, a cycle path and a park with outdoor space – different ways to take in the town and its surroundings at your own pace.

Churches and visible local history

The named buildings include San Martino al Bagno, a small Romanesque church with a single-nave layout, an apse and an unusual bell gable on the façade. Another historical reference leads to today’s Chiesa del Santissimo Salvatore: after a flood of the Arno, the original San Salvatore church was demolished in 1854 and rebuilt on the opposite side of the street from 1854 to 1857. Opposite the present-day church, the remains of the former San Salvatore church are visible. They include a rectangular outline made of Verrucano stone and a largely preserved semicircular apse. Those interested in local history will therefore find not just a single church building here, but also the spatially visible connection between the earlier building and its reconstruction.

Festivals, bathing history and olive oil

The history of local events is also part of the picture of Uliveto Terme. From 18 to 20 April 2026, Uliveto in Festa returned to Uliveto Terme as a three-day festival. The programme included games, music, tradition, sport and community activities in Parco Pertini and at other locations in Uliveto Terme. The event is now in the past and therefore mainly describes a documented part of local life. In the 19th century, people came to Uliveto to bathe and take drinking cures. In the regional surroundings of Uliveto Terme, Vicopisano is also part of the Strada dell’Olio dei Monti Pisani. Local extra virgin olive oil is tasted there; according to local tradition, the olives are cultivated and harvested exclusively by hand. In this way, bathing history, a regional event and the olive oil tradition complement one another as different cultural points of connection.
