Vorno: Villa Trails, Chiuse and Stargazing

Vorno lies at the foot of Monte Pisano in the green valley of the stream of the same name. The village combines a distinctive landscape with historic traces, villa trails, regionally influenced cuisine and a special destination on Monte della Gallonzora. Stargazing at the Osservatorio

Villas, park and regional cuisine

Tenuta Dello Scompiglio covers 50 hectares in the hills of Vorno. The grounds include a centuries-old park and a villa, landscaped areas, agricultural land and renovated farmhouses. This combination of different elements makes the Tenuta a specifically described cultural landscape ensemble in which the park, architecture and agriculture stand side by side. Immediately outside the walls of the Tenuta is Cucina Dello Scompiglio. Before and after performances at SPE, it serves meals, snacks and aperitifs in indoor and outdoor areas. Whenever possible, the kitchen uses produce from the Tenuta’s agricultural area and organic garden, including predominantly local seasonal vegetables and fruit, as well as herbs and wildflowers. The culinary offering is therefore closely linked to the Tenuta’s documented agricultural areas, without this implying a general restaurant offering at all times.

Circular route and medieval traces

The circular route between the villas of Vorno is 5 to 6 kilometres long and offers several short optional detours. It provides a separate way to experience the villa landscape on foot. There is also the Pieve di San Pietro in Vorno, first documented in 867. The church preserves a capital attributed to the school of Beduino and the columns of the central nave of the 12th-century building. The distinctive Chiuse are also part of the village’s history. They were created between the 16th and 17th centuries. A Chiusa in Vorno is a clearly defined area enclosed by stone walls, with the villa at its centre. Here, the term therefore refers not merely to a garden, but to a structurally enclosed estate centred around a villa.
