Trebbio: Trails, Valleys and the Piglione Vertical

Trebbio is a destination for everyone who wants not only to look at the landscape, but to experience it along trails, climbs and through wooded areas. In the village, the valleys shaped by the Pescaglia and Pedogna streams intersect at right angles. Terraces divide the slopes near the settlements, while a network of trails runs through the wooded areas of the region. This makes it possible to plan a stay around different interests: with a specific trail as the highlight, with a route through the landscape or with a quieter view of the valley’s forms.

Trails on Monte Piglione and around Trebbio

A notable connection to Monte Piglione is provided by CAI Trail 103. Starting from Groppa, it crosses the entire northern slope of Monte Piglione. On a section that can be travelled by bicycle, views open up over Monte Matanna and the Panie group. Those who want to weigh up a walking route against a section by bicycle when planning their trip will therefore find different options here, without reducing the landscape to a single experience.

San Giuseppe in Trebbio is also a specific starting point for planning a route. The village lies at an elevation of 326 metres on the Torrente Pedogna in the municipality of Pescaglia. From here, Trail 102 begins, leading to Campo all’Orzo. For visitors who prefer a named route as a guide, this connection offers a clear starting point and a specific destination. In addition, a network of trails runs through the wooded areas; the terraces on the slopes show how the settlements are embedded in the landscape.

The Piglione Vertical 2026

The Piglione Vertical 2026 is an uphill trail race starting in the village of Piegaio-Trebbio. The route runs through Convalle and climbs along the Sentiero dell’Indiano to Foce. The ascent then continues: the race finishes on Piglione Sud after a final 1.5-kilometre climb from Foce.

For the Piglione Vertical 2026, race numbers and participant packs will be issued on 4 October from 7 to 8 a.m. at the Teatrino di Trebbio opposite the start. Those travelling to Trebbio for the race can take this organisational detail into account when planning. The start in the village of Piegaio-Trebbio, the route through Convalle and along the Sentiero dell’Indiano, and the finish at Piglione Sud give the event a clearly traceable sequence.

Another date in the annual calendar

In addition to the uphill trail race, there is a cultural event: the village committee of Convalle and Trebbio organises the Fiaccolata al Presepe di Mela on 26 December. This date broadens the perspective on Trebbio to include a community event and may interest visitors who want to plan their trip around a fixed date rather than exclusively around a trail route.
