Celle and the traces of Giacomo Puccini

The village of Celle dei Puccini consists of stone houses dating from the 16th and 17th centuries. They line the main road and the characteristic lanes, giving the village a clearly recognisable historic character.

The connection with Puccini is more than just a name. Giacomo Puccini spent holidays in Celle during his childhood; on 26 October 1924, he returned there for the last time. Casa dei Puccini and Museo Pucciniano

The Casa dei Puccini Museum preserves the piano on which Puccini composed part of Madama Butterfly. The collection also includes a phonograph that Thomas Edison gave to Puccini. The museum was established in 1976 in the former home of Puccini’s ancestors. This historical context remains essential to the significance of the house: it is a place where personal family history, memorabilia and Puccini’s musical work come together.

The Museo Pucciniano is also connected with the family history of the composer Giacomo Puccini. Celle dei Puccini is also home to the Chiesa di Sant’Elisabetta.

Hiking and cycling along Puccini’s routes

Celle is also part of several themed routes. The third stage of the Cammino 44 leads to Celle Puccini; the Museo Pucciniano is located there in Puccini’s grandparents’ house. As the Cammino 44 continues, the route climbs uphill and offers wide views over the Serchio Valley.
