The focus is therefore not only on individual artefacts, but also on a specific archaeological context and a documented route.

Further evidence is scattered throughout the surrounding area. The Riparo di Vado all'Arancio was discovered there in 1969. A bronze statuette of Heracles dating from the 3rd century BC was also found at Poggio Castiglione; it is now kept at the Archaeological Museum of Florence.

A Stele from the Fields of Cura Nuova

The anthropomorphic stele from the fields of Cura Nuova is particularly distinctive. A stele of this kind was found in the fields; it dates from the Eneolithic period, an era roughly 5,500–4,500 years before the present. The stele is displayed at the Archaeological Museum of Massa Marittima. It therefore comes from a significantly earlier period than the Etruscan finds at Poggio Castiglione and the Hellenistic settlement in the surrounding area.

Landscape Between Watercourse and Caves

The landscape also has a historical dimension. The area around the Gora delle Ferriere is associated with its importance as a major watercourse for mining activities. There are also numerous caves in the Cura Nuova area. Together with the vineyards, farms, and archaeological evidence, they create a local landscape in which the natural environment, the history of land use, and culture stand closely side by side, without this implying an unsubstantiated shared route or a specific excursion.
