Fortifications and Historical Evidence

The Forte delle Saline is a square fortification at the mouth of the Albegna River, incorporating a covered tower. The Forte delle Saline occupied a strategic position and controlled the nearby salt pans, the river port, traffic on the Via Aurelia and the crossings over the Tombolo di Giannella. This makes it clear how closely water, transport routes and military protection were connected in this landscape. Another historical layer is represented by the tower complex now incorporated into the Forte di Torre Saline. It was commissioned in 1469 by the Republic of Siena from Giovanni Danesi da Como. The Roman kilns of Albinia lie between the left bank of the Albegna River and the built-up area of Albinia. The Chiesa di Maria Santissima delle Grazie was completed in 1957 and officially consecrated in the same year; a statue of Santa Rita is kept inside it.

A Documented Stage of the Cammino della Costa d’Argento

For active days, the Cammino della Costa d’Argento is one of the town’s clearly identifiable points of reference. The Cammino includes a 17-km stage from Orbetello via the Laguna di Ponente and the Tombolo di Giannella to Albinia. The stage thus connects several named landscape areas and places Albinia within a longer route. Local Character and Seafood Cuisine

The Sagra della Spigola, held in Albinia, is a recurring local food festival.
