Tallini: Discover trails, forests and art
Accommodation in Tallini
An e-bike loop begins in Tallini, while a hiking route rated easy leads into the village. There is also an architectural feature: in several buildings, the original layout of the building volumes and the exposed brickwork are considered valuable elements. Together, outdoor activities and building fabric give your trip distinct, tangible focal points.
Hiking and e-bike routes
The 34.62-kilometre e-bike loop starts in Tallini and leads to the Riserva di Sant’Antonio; the stated elevation gain is 1,105 metres. The route, described in October 2025, should be checked for its course and trail conditions before use.
A hiking route from Reggello/Cascia to Pian di Scò is rated easy, measures 6.7 kilometres and has an elevation gain of 170 metres. It leads to Tallini. By comparison, it is considerably shorter and has less elevation gain than the e-bike loop; the routes also differ in their mode of travel and in that the hike leads to Tallini, while the loop starts there.
Another route runs from Tallini along Via Tallini/Via Alessandro Manzoni towards San Giovenale and follows Sentiero 33 through wooded terrain. If you plan to follow one of the routes published by users, check its course and the conditions before setting out.
Forests and protected landscapes
The Vallombrosa Forest has been a biogenetic nature reserve since 1977. It welcomes hikers and school groups for environmental education activities. Around 250 herbaceous species native to the area grow in the Vallombrosa Botanical Garden. They are arranged by habitat and represent a large proportion of the species found in the reserve.
The Foresta di Sant’Antonio above Reggello has 18 kilometres of trails marked by the Club Alpino Italiano. In this forest, the Capanna delle Guardie can accommodate around ten people. If you plan to stay overnight there, check the conditions and availability locally.
The protected area of the Balze is also designated as an A.N.P.I.L. protected area and is included in the regional register of protected areas in Tuscany. In the municipality of Reggello, the local authority organises excursions and initiatives every year so that people interested in nature can get to know and appreciate the Balze. Check the dates of these activities before travelling.
Culture, art and regional products
Vallombrosa Abbey is a minor basilica and an Italian national monument. Construction work on the masonry cells and the oratory began in 1036. Alongside its religious significance, this brings specific architectural features and an early historical date into focus.
The Museo Masaccio d’Arte Sacra preserves paintings of Florentine art, silverwork, ecclesiastical objects and precious liturgical vestments from the 15th to the 20th century. The Trittico di San Giovenale is also housed there; the date of execution, 23 April 1422, is inscribed along its lower edge. The abbey and museum thus point to different aspects of sacred art and architectural history.
Extra virgin olive oil and Zolfino beans are presented as local products in the municipality of Reggello. They add a culinary perspective on the region to its nature and culture.
