Thus, historical evidence and a work of contemporary art come together at a shared cultural point of reference in Poggibonsi.

Sacred art and street art

The Basilica di San Lucchese also broadens the city’s cultural profile. It is a Gothic basilica in Val d’Elsa; works by Cennino Cennini can be viewed in connection with it. The Santuario di Romituzzo offers a distinctly different insight: it contains around 5,000 ex votos collected from 1400 to the present day. The collection therefore documents a long period of development, without limiting the visit to a single era. Poggibonsi also has a contemporary side. Street art can be found at various locations throughout the city. As part of innovative contemporary art projects, the city displays works by numerous artists, including Anthony Gormley and Mimmo Paladino. For active days, the Via Francigena variant “Fondovalle Poggibonizio” is relevant. The approximately 28.5 km route begins in the area of San Gimignano and reaches and crosses Poggibonsi. The approximate distance remains an important detail for individual planning. A walk through Poggibonsi leads beyond the city centre to the green area surrounding the city.
