Corsignano: Historic Village, Vineyards and Trails

Corsignano combines a historic settlement with vineyards, olive groves and specific routes through the surrounding area. The village developed linearly along the main road, which is also part of the historic road network. If you would like to combine culture, landscape and regional cuisine in Tuscany with different types of excursions, Corsignano offers several clearly distinct points of access for doing so.

Historic Structure and Routes

The main road is more than a present-day connection: it is part of the historic road network and explains Corsignano’s linear development. Another connection within the village can be traced at the Fattoria di Corsignano. From there, a 300-metre-long unpaved path leads to the old village of Corsignano. This creates an explicitly identified, short route connection between the agriculturally oriented area and the old village. The information describes the distance and the surface of the path, but not a walking time or any additional access conditions. For orientation by public transport, the S34 regional bus is relevant. It connects Vagliagli, Corsignano, Pontignano and Ponte a Bozzone. The summer timetable available here is valid from 27 July 2026. A second, different type of connection is represented by a hiking trip organised by the Touring Club Italiano and scheduled from 4 to 9 November 2025: it included a 10.5-kilometre trekking stage from Radda in Chianti to Corsignano. The bus connection and trekking stage therefore represent two different ways of incorporating Corsignano into a journey.

Wine, Olives and Cuisine

The Fattoria di Corsignano produces 40,000 bottles. Its range includes Chianti Classico DOCG, Chianti Classico Riserva DOCG, Chianti Classico Gran Selezione DOCG, Rosso Toscana IGT, Rosato Toscana IGT, Vinsanto and Grappa di Chianti Classico. The variety of explicitly named wines makes the village’s connection with wine concrete without reducing it to a single variety. In Località Corsignano, Castelnuovo Berardenga, the Fattoria di Corsignano covers 22 hectares of forests, vineyards and olive groves. Around seven hectares are used for wine production; the estate has been organically certified since 2014. In addition, Complicità in Corsignano has three hectares of Chianti Classico vineyards and one hectare of olive groves. For its main dishes, the Fattoria’s restaurant uses vegetables from the estate’s own synergy garden. Viticulture, olive cultivation and cuisine are thus each connected with a specific place and a named practice.

Chieci and the Open View

Chieci has a church known as Chiesa di Santa Maria. This name identifies the church without making any further claims about whether it is open or can be visited. Chieci is situated at a higher elevation and offers a wide-open view from there. The hamlet of Chieci, dated to around the year 1000 and also located in Corsignano, is additionally part of the estate of the agricultural company Complicità. Thus, landscape perception, local history and agricultural use come together at this point of reference.
