Fibbialla is one of the ten Castella of the Svizzera Pesciatina and is considered the smallest of the ten. Among vineyards and chestnut groves, the rectory church of San Michele and trails into the Alta Valleriana define the character of the village. History, art and hiking offer practical perspectives for planning: you can explore the village itself or experience the surrounding area on foot. These highlights can also help you tailor your search for accommodation to your travel interests. Fibbialla lies 424 metres above sea level.

San Michele and the historic village centre

The entrance to Fibbialla is marked by the rectory church of San Michele, around which the village centre is also laid out. This dual role makes San Michele a landmark both on arrival and within the historic structure of the village. The Church of San Michele Arcangelo was built in the 15th century and rebuilt at the end of the 18th century. The church houses paintings from the 17th and 18th centuries, as well as a 15th-century sculpture depicting the Annunciation. This brings together different periods: the sculpture dates from the same century as the church’s origins, while the paintings span later centuries. Check access to the church interior before visiting the artworks.

Significant remains of the Rocca stand above the church. Together with San Michele, they provide another landmark in the historic village centre.

Hiking around Fibbialla

The Sentiero Valleriana 55B is classified as an easy trekking route near Fibbialla. This provides a specific indication of its difficulty when choosing a walk; trail conditions can change, so check their status before setting out. A footpath connects Medicina and Fibbialla, which are separated by the Fosso Maleto. Trails from Fibbialla also lead into the Alta Valleriana. When choosing a walk, you can therefore distinguish between a difficulty rating, a connection between villages, and trails into a wider region.

In the Svizzera Pesciatina, a hiking trail connects the ten Castella. It starts in Pietrabuona, follows the Pescia River and takes about six hours. Allow approximately six hours and check trail conditions and navigation in advance. If your travel group has different interests, it helps to set a clear priority for the day: a visit to the village, a footpath between villages, or the regional hike of about six hours.

A festival note for your plans

A description from 2021 names the Sagra della Porchetta as a festival held in Fibbialla in August. If you would like to attend the Sagra, check the current event dates.
