Lutirano – Hiking Trails, Culture and the Acerreta Valley
Accommodation in Lutirano
Lutirano reveals its character through trails, historic monastic sites and the landscape of the Torrente Acerreta. The access road to Lutirano follows the valley floor along the river. At the same time, trails lead from here, or from the Lutirano district, to Trebbana, the Eremo di Gamogna and up to the Valico della Collina. If you would like to combine culture, hiking and cycling during your trip, this gives you a range of different, clearly described destinations within the same destination.
Hiking trails to Trebbana and Gamogna
A special starting point is the Ponte della Valle in the Lutirano district. From there, the Eremo di Gamogna can be reached via a hiking trail. The Eremo was founded in 1053 by San Pier Damiani for the Camaldolese monks of the Badia di Acereta below. The access route is therefore not merely a trail description, but leads to a place with a closely preserved monastic history. The CAI Trail 549 to Trebbana also begins at the Ponte della Valle. The bridge lies 5 km upstream from Lutirano; the trail itself is 1.8 km long and has a positive elevation gain of 249 m. Trebbana is an ancient monastic centre with a church dedicated to Saint San Michele. The church of Trebbana that survives today displays 18th-century forms. Just a few minutes’ walk from Trebbana, there is also one of the largest oak trees in Romagna. This trail therefore combines nature observation with a specific historical destination.Badia della Valle and the Acerreta Valley
Badia della Valle is also one of the documented cultural sites around Lutirano. The abbey was founded in 1053 in the Acerreta Valley. From Lutirano, Via Valle Acerreta leads after approximately 4 km to the Agriturismo Badia della Valle. There is a restaurant in the monastic complex of Badia della Valle. For your travel planning, the road connection, the historic site and the stay in the valley can therefore be considered as separate aspects here, without equating the individual offerings with one another.Cycling to the Valico della Collina
For a more sporting exploration, a cycling tour leads from Lutirano to the Valico della Collina. It is 5.5 km long and climbs 201 metres in elevation. The ascent runs through a dense fir forest. This route therefore differs clearly from the hiking trail to Trebbana: here, the focus is on the length of the cycling tour, the elevation gain and the change into the forest.Local events and regional cuisine
Lutirano is also shaped by recurring events. The recurring summer event in Lutirano offers Polenta al ragù as well as fried piadina with cold cuts and cheese. The craft market “Fatto a mano a Lutirano” takes place in the courtyard of Badia della Valle. In spring, people meet at “Lôm a mérz” in the riverbed of the Torrente Acerreta. The three events focus on different aspects: traditional dishes, handicrafts and a meeting place directly by the river. You can also include Popolano as another destination in your travel selection. For the overarching travel overview: Marradi.
