The annual earthnut fair takes place in San Miniato during the last three weeks of November. Mercato del Bianco Tartufo di San Miniato is one of the most exciting gastronomic events. This year the event will be held 15/16, 22/23, 29/30 November weekends.
San Miniato is situated in Tuscan province Pisa. The soil in the suburbs of the small city is favorable for growing white earthnuts. Almost 30% of the Italian earthnut harvest comes from San Miniato. So the place is well known among the amateurs of the delicacies.
The authorities of the province realize the importance of the rare truffles for the economy of the region. Specifically, in September, 2008, tourism counselor Gran Rafaella reported about special draft bill to be presented for the revision by the agricultural committee. The main goal of the document is to develop new specific quality standards. This is required not only for the protection of customer rights but also for the improvement of taxation. The attention for these serious questions is certainly will be paid in the offices but not on the fair.
The festival itself will take place on the squares of the historical centre of the city. Gourmets will have the chance to enjoy not only white truffles but also the other local delicacies: the famous Tuscan wines, olive oil and cheese. Moreover, there will be some amusing surprises for guests as usual. Still, a simple walk around the city will please any visitor of San Miniato.
