Barga with a population of ten thousand people towers above the provinces of Lucca and Pisa on the Remeggio hill.

The historic center of the town is located on a picturesque hill with a stunning view of the Garfaniana area. It’s a good idea to come up to the spot between the Palace of the Podesta, Arringo e Palazzo del Podestà, and the Cathedral, Duomo di Barga, so that you can enjoy the scenery of the Apuan Alps and the Apennines. The wood choirs and the carved golden sanctuary are worth observing in the Church of Saint Cross, Chiesa del Santissimo Crocifisso. It is the second old church of Barga. The barocco Church of Saint the Annunziata erected at the end of the XVI century is among the sights of the town.

Besides churches, there are a lot of other special palaces in Barga. Their architecture keeps the preferences and the spirit of their ex-owners. Palazzo Mordind, Palazzo Bertacchi-Cordati, Palazzo Pancrazi and others are among them.

One of the key cultural sights of the town is located in the remote Barga area of Castelvecchio. This is the house-museum of the famous Italian decadence poet Giovanni Pascoli. The temple where the poet was buried is located nearby.

Teatro dei Differenti is the most prestigious musical arena of the city. Its construction dates back to the year of 1668. While the past century, the theater lived through fame and through destruction. Nowadays, Teatro dei Differenti is the heart of the cultural life of Barga. The town is especially popular during summer. Most of the visitors are music lovers. The city invites those who appreciate various genres. Opera festivals as well as jazz ones are held here.
