Massa-Carrara is the very northern province of Tuscany. The two capitals located only a few kilometers away from each other gave the province its name. The marble is exported through the Marina di CarraraPort constructed specifically for this purpose. The Marble Museum of Carraraexhibits the whole variety of stone extracted from the Apuan Alps. The stone pits themselves are a part of the Apuan Park.

Pontremoli is a historical center located in the northern part of Massa-Carrara. Its Archaeological museum, Museo Civico Archeologico, gives a unique opportunity to observe stele statues made of sandstone around 2000 b.c.
