The province of Massa-Carrara

Massa-Carrara is the very northern province of Tuscany. The two capitals located only a few kilometers away from each other gave the province its name. Art experts pay deference to this land, as it is the place where the famous marble is extracted. The  magnificence of the stone can be compared to the magnificence of sculptures made of it. The marble is exported through the Marina di CarraraPort constructed specifically for this purpose. The Marble Museum of Carraraexhibits the whole variety of stone extracted from the Apuan Alps. The stone pits themselves are a part of the Apuan Park.

Massais the second capital of the province. There are two main attractions in the city, Piazza degli Aranci, the square in the historic center of the city, and the medievalcastle, which today houses an exhibition center.

Marina di Massa  is a resort located only 5 kilometers away from the capitals, at the foot of the Frigia mountain chain. The neighborhood of the sea and pine mountain woods  creates healthy air. Wide sandy beaches and balneal centers are at your service here.

Pontremoli  is a historical center located in the northern part of Massa-Carrara. Its Archaeological museum, Museo Civico Archeologico, gives a unique opportunity to observe stele statues made of sandstone around 2000 b.c.
