Follonica
The shore of Maremma is rich in charming places for resort recreation. Follonica is one of them. It is a town-commune, which stretches at the bay of the same name.
Follonica rose only in the XIX century, when a fishing village turned into a town. This explains, why there are only a few architectural monuments here. San Leopoldo Church is the main town's attraction. The majority of buildings in Follonica are dwelling houses and hotels which welcome guests. The great number of offers will satisfy different price requirements. Anyway, you will be treated with traditional Tuscan hospitality.
Follonica appeals to those who like to spend their vacation at the seaside. Clear sand and a gentle coast are really great for recreation with kids. In 2010 the beaches of Follonica got the Blue Ecology Flags for the 11th time. This is the highest recognition of water and coast quality, level of service and safety.
Follonica has the famous view of the Elba island, located right across the town.
If you make up your mind to visit Follonica in August, you will not only enjoy the beauty of local nature, but also take part in a traditional feast. The fireworks in the sea are arranged annually on August, 15 in honor of the Assumption of Mary (Ferragosto).
Another famous cultural event is the jazz festival, held every summer.
You can improve your health by walking in Italian pine forests, which surround Folonica. Piombino, Carboniferaand Torre Mozza are neighbors of Folonica in the north. Magnificent fine sand beaches are located close to them. The famous Punta Ala Haven is Folonica's neighbor in the south. It is the center of yachting sport. The Cala Violina Haven is considered to be one of the most beautiful in the region. As the distances are short, tourists often make one-day trips to neighboring towns.
